Improvisation is sometimes the product of just the good old condition of being yourself.

north carolina's lingering autumn, discovering coffee at breakfast, being allowed to play for a while, the most interesting meetings I've attnded in months, improv, uninterrupted minutes to talk out a tangled problem, being graced with jazz (or "new blues") musicians' brilliance, the low mellow voice of the clarinet, thinking theologically, communing over beer, when Harry met Sally, Seth avett on life and faith and tradition and innovation, and beth's ability to lounge so well even in the midst of chaos and confusion/danger and distraction.
